That profound feeling the first time you were able to replicate your own parts..

This bracket was designed while in the process of building my own 3D printer code name the “iMill 3D”.  When you’re creating something new many times the parts you need don’t exist!  This problem would typically require some online part searching on Amazon or a trip to the hardware store but not anymore if you have a 3D printer.  3D printing is changing the game and if you don’t already know, its changing the world.  Here is a quick guide on the 3D replication process.

Steps:

1. Some quick 1 minute measurements with a micrometer (purchased from Harbor Freight)

2. 10 minutes to draw in Google SketchUp (free 3D drawing software)

3. Wait 45 minutes to print with BFB 3D Touch printer.

4. Add stainless hardware

5. Document the entire process, take a picture and blog about it!

A 3D printer is by far one of the best investments any inventor could have.. If you’re into creating your own widgets and gadgets I’d highly recommend one. I am currently in-between printers but am waiting for the new #MarkForged Carbon Fiber 3D printer to come out. Nothing better than the smell of carbon fiber in the lab 😉
